From Ancient Sanctuaries to Inner Quests: Reimagining the Evolution of the Sacred

The need for meaning and connection to the sacred has always been the core foundation and unifying thread of human existence throughout history. Across the ages, this endless yearning found its answers within the framework of traditional religions, collective rituals, and institutional boundaries. In the contemporary era, however, we are witnessing a profound and striking rupture: the rapid emergence and pluralization of “new spiritualities.”

The course “Spirituality: From Traditional Religions to the Postmodern World” is an endeavor to understand this monumental historical turn. On this journey, we will:

  • First, travel back to the traditional roots and origins of spirituality to comprehend the cosmic and collective order of the past.
  • Next, analyze the transition through the corridor of modernity and its intellectual currents—the very epoch where individualism emerged and traditional structures were called into question.
  • Finally, paint a clear picture of the landscape of postmodern spirituality, discussing the characteristics, challenges, and horizons of these personalized, experiential, and pluralistic spiritualities.

If you seek a deeper understanding of the spiritual life of contemporary humans and the shift of spirituality from “institution” to “interiority,” join us on this intellectual journey.
